TRACES
Next TRACES Session:
Tuesday 16th December 5:30-7:30pm
Room PA201, Newcastle College, Rye Hill Campus, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A large part of my work revolves around facilitation working with young people, students, older adults and professionals. Across 2024 and 2025 I began developing and delivering my own practice, TRACES, within the North East.
TRACES is an improvisation workshop derived from performance work For Steve and ongoing Body as Archive research.
With influence from Steve Paxton’s Contact Improvisation, TRACES workshops discover memories of touch and sensation to inform the way we move. Throughout the workshops we move through several task based explorations to experience touch with a care centred, embodied approach creating new, interesting ways of moving.
TRACES has been delivered for free at Dance City across Spring 2025 to students and professionals as well as +55 class participants.
How is the contact we give ourselves different from the contact we give others?
Feel, sense, settle in
notice the heat and sensation on the skin,
store it, recall it and move to the touch.
TRACES Feedback from participants:
‘A class/workshop similar to TRACES is not offered in the North East. Both pro artists and community dancers need this offered regularly, it was a beautiful experience.’
‘After each workshop I felt a lot more in-tune with my body and more comfortable in improvising’
‘I left feeling full, lighter, cared for and inspired’
